TRAINING AND RACING TIPS

Favourite Training Session: I love tempo runs because I know they help me get faster.

Favourite part of a triathlon: I love seeing all the people. There is always a variety ages, levels and abilities of people coming together pushing their limits.

What would you like to improve? My biking needs work.

Tips to stay motivated: I stay motivated by remembering that there is always someone faster than me training harder than me. :) I stay motivated by knowing my training is keeping me healthy and fit. When I couldn’t train as hard during chemo, I really gained an appreciation for the sport and the ability to be able to train as hard as I wanted.

How important is confidence in your racing performance?  Confidence and not worrying about what others think is VERY important.

Time saving tips:  A good  way to fit in training is to schedule the time and make it a priority. Sometimes the house has to stay messy an extra day in order to get training done.

Tips for improving: The best thing to do to get better is to hire a coach. There is something about following a plan and being held accountable for your training. Plus, when someone can evaluate your form and help you improve your efficiency can make a huge difference.

Racing Tips: Relax, know the course and trust your training.

Future Goals: My goal is to qualify for the age group World Championships at age group Nationals in 2012.

Why should women participate in Triathlon? Women should participate in triathlon because they enjoy being fit, training with friends, and like to set and achieve goals. It just feels good.

Other comments: You can start training for a triathlon at any age. Just go for it!
