Like mother, like daughter
my daughter just completed her first triathlon because she wanted to become a triathlete like her mama. I have found interesting ways to train with being a Mother of three active children. I have run up and down my stairs for runs, use the bike trainer quite a bit, and have strength trained at the playground many a time.
How long have you been doing triathlons: Since Danskin 2010 about 1 1/2 yrs.
Hours able to train each week:  During the Summers aprox. 14-16 hrs School Year 16-20hrs.

How did you start doing Triathlon?:
I first began my journey after signing up for my first half-marathon, I had never run a single mile in my life. It was a period in my life when I was suffering from post pardum depression and  had an overwhelming feeling of worthlessness. After I crossed that finish line I was a new woman, I felt better about myself, depression gone. I was ready to conquer a triathlon. I immediately signed up for my first Sprint Triathlon, Danskin. I had to learn to both swim and cycle which proved a challenge in itself.  But the harder it was for me the more I wanted it!!  I finished that triathlon and went on to do 2 more sprints that season.  Then I went on to challenge myself further and complete two 70.3 Ironman distance races in 2011.
My journey continues on to Ironman Texas 2012. My training begins in 1 week.
Triathlon has saved me.
I am a survior of childhood sexual abuse and on May 19, 2012 I am reclaiming my power and my spirit.
TRAINING AND RACING TIPS
Favourite Training Session: I like speedwork for the run especially.
What is your Favorite Part of Triathlon?: I enjoy the run the most, even though it’s the most taxing on my bunions and crooked feet, I feel ‘free’ when I run:)
Where would you like to improve?: All 3 really, but if I had to pick one, I’d say the bike split.
How do you stay motivated? I surround myself with others that have similiar goals because there are going to be days when you’re down on yourself and you need your friends to support and encourage you when you need it. I also find great inspirational quotes, music, and YouTube videos to read, listen to or watch for when I need a reminder of what this journey means to me. Never lose sight of your goals.
How important is confidence in your racing performance? I have found it to be extremely important, If you believe you can’t then you are right. This has been the hardest part for me as an athlete, that I am indeed good enough. You have to believe, the mind is powerful.
Time saving tips: You may have heard this before but you have to plan your day around your training and not your training around your day.  Set a realistic time that works for you whether it be early early in the morning or later in the day especially if you just can’t get to bed early enough.  If you put your training 2nd or 3rd or last priority you are not going to consistently train.  I definately have taught my children about goals and the work it takes to reach them. I have been very creative when it comes to getting my training in and including the children.  This Summer I swam laps with my daughter on swim days, and with another athlete mom we ran intervals and strength trained at our neighborhood playground while our children played. When my asthmatic son was home sick during the Winter I ran up and down the stairs in our home and did pushups, dips, sit ups… The bike trainer is a regular training session here, I can watch a movie with the kids and ride. I know all the tricks:)
Tips for improving: I have found that working on running form and efficiency has helped my run tremendously. Interval training on the bike is essential and working on efficient swimming form and technique and spending lots of time in the water has helped me in the swim.
Future goals: My largest undertaking during this journey is Ironman Texas 2012, My training commences November 21, 2011 and I am looking forward to this ride.  As with all my endurance training I have come to expect the niggles and struggles, the ups and downs that make the finish that much sweeter. My asthma, my bunions, my crooked feet and back will be a part of the training, I take the bad with the good. I am eternally grateful and humbled that I have this opportunity. My life journey as let me to this moment. I have a dream, a BIG Dream, I want to be an Ironman. I want to hear the words, “Luly You ARE an IRONMAN”
Why should women participate in Triathlon? Woman should participate in triathlon to find their strength, courage, and beauty that lies within.  You get to know yourself very well during triathlon training and races. You discover what you are made of, the real you! The facade peels away and all that’s left is your spirit, your soul. I finally know what it’s like to be free. I feel free when I swim, bike, and run.
Any other comments for women triathletes: I would encourage ALL women to tri. You never know what you are capable of until you are willing to step out of your comfort zone. Triathlon is a beautiful sport, you meet all kinds of people, the camaraderie, and friendships are unique. Even though it is an individual sport, everyone is rooting for everyone to do their best and succeed. It becomes much more than a swim bike run.
