TRAINING AND RACING TIPS

How did you start in triathlon? My high school track coach encouraged me to try one to keep in shape over the summer

What is your favourite part of a triathlon? Definitely the people in the sport.

Favourite Training Session?  The long trail run 2 hours in the mountain trails of Tucson

Where would you like to improve? My Swim!

Do you have tips for other women? You deserve just as fancy equipment as the men – too often women scrimp on gear while the men get all the new toys.

What tips do you have to stay motivated and what keeps you motivated? Think about why you are racing long before you have to answer that question during difficult section in a race.  Having an answer close at hand will make it easier to stay motivated and on task.

How important is confidence in your racing performance?  Confidence is many things – it is the belief in your training, yourself and your abilities.  Overconfidence can be detrimental to performance but self-belief will get to the start line.

Any tips for improving swimming? Get out and swim open water as much as possible.  It really is different than the pool and it helps to be comfortable with sighting and swimming out of your comfort zone.

Any training tips to improve cycling?   Join the local group ride – it is what i did when I started.  Nothing makes you faster than hanging on to lots of fast wheels and it improves handling skills too.

Any training tips to improve running? Trails build strength, coordination and ankle stability.  Great to incorporate a couple times a week in the off season

Any tips about racing? You’re faster than you think.  Go hard and see what you can do!
